Srinagar, May 30: Srinagar Police have registered an FIR against a Smart City bus driver after a video showing him allegedly pelting stones at a Smart City bus went viral on social media following a scuffle with the bus conductor in Rawalpora on Saturday.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Khan, son of Asadullah Khan and a resident of Padshahibagh. He has been taken into custody and shifted to JVC Hospital for medical treatment.
Officials said the incident took place at Rawalpora Chowk, where the driver and conductor reportedly became involved in a heated argument during duty hours. The dispute later escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in minor injuries to the conductor.
A video of the incident later surfaced online, showing the driver allegedly throwing stones at the Smart City bus and damaging the vehicle. The footage quickly gained widespread attention on social media.
Police said a team rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. An FIR has been registered against the accused for assaulting the conductor and causing damage to public property.
“The driver, who also sustained injuries during the incident, has been arrested along with the bus. Further investigation is underway,” officials said.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the matter are continuing.
