Srinagar, June 26: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday strongly rejected the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) allegations that his government had made thousands of backdoor appointments, challenging PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to identify even a single person allegedly appointed through such means by the present administration.
Speaking to reporters, Omar Abdullah said, “Show me a single name whom we have appointed through the backdoor.”
Calling the allegations “baseless,” the Chief Minister announced that two senior ministers of his government would hold a press conference in the coming days to present the facts before the public.
He accused the PDP of attempting to divert attention from its own record in government, alleging that large-scale backdoor appointments were made during the PDP-BJP coalition government.
Omar Abdullah also referred to the appointment of the son of Mehbooba Mufti’s maternal uncle, Sartaj Madni, claiming the matter reached the courts and that the appointment was later withdrawn following judicial intervention.
The Chief Minister further alleged that hundreds of backdoor appointments were made during the PDP-BJP regime, including in Jammu and Kashmir Bank, and said those appointments remain under the scrutiny of investigating agencies.
His remarks came a day after Mehbooba Mufti accused the National Conference-led government of institutionalising backdoor appointments and depriving deserving youth of employment opportunities. The PDP has also announced protests across Jammu and Kashmir over the issue.
