Srinagar, July 2: , president of the , is set to travel to to pay her final respects to the country’s slain Supreme Leader, , after receiving an official invitation to attend the state funeral.
The invitation was extended by , inviting Mehbooba Mufti as a distinguished guest from India to participate in the funeral ceremonies in Tehran.
Calling the invitation a rare honour, Mehbooba Mufti said, “It is an immense honour for me and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to receive this invitation. I will travel to Iran to pay my last respects to the Supreme Leader.”
According to the invitation, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28, and, following the Islamic Republic’s official mourning protocols, a state funeral will be held in from July 3 to July 6.
The letter said Mehbooba Mufti’s presence would symbolize the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between the Islamic Republic of Iran and India. The funeral programme includes a farewell ceremony at the on July 3, followed by commemorative events and a funeral procession on the following days.
