NC Plans Massive Srinagar Rally on July 11 Ahead of Delhi Statehood Protest

Srinagar, July 06: The ruling Jammu & Kashmir National Conference is gearing up for a major political mobilisation in Srinagar on July 11, ahead of its proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

The ruling Jammu & Kashmir National Conference is preparing for a massive show of strength in Srinagar on July 11, with the party mobilising workers from across Jammu and Kashmir as part of its campaign for the restoration of statehood.

The rally will precede the party’s proposed July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, coinciding with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

According to party leaders, the Delhi protest will be attended by the National Conference’s 41 MLAs and four Members of Parliament, who will seek to press the Union Government for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Javid Ahmad Dar said the party expects a turnout of 30,000 to 40,000 people at the Srinagar rally.
He said the gathering would send a strong political message and reflect public support for the restoration of statehood before the party’s demonstration in the national capital.
Responding to criticism from opposition parties, Dar said the National Conference had deliberately exercised restraint in its approach towards the Centre.

He stated that the party’s patience should not be interpreted as weakness, adding that the NC had expected the Union Government to fulfil its commitment to restore statehood.
Dar further said the party would continue its peaceful and democratic campaign, including the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar, until the demand for statehood is fulfilled.

The July 11 programme also coincides with the National Conference’s annual observance of Madre-e-Meharban Day, which party leaders say will assume added political significance this year as the first major public mobilisation ahead of the Delhi protest.
The National Conference has already constituted a coordination committee to oversee arrangements for the Delhi demonstration and plans to submit a memorandum to Droupadi Murmu seeking the restoration of statehood.
