NC its Allies Passes Resolutions Against Waqf Bill, LG’s Decisions

The Jammu and Kashmir alliance led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah passed two key resolutions during a high-level meeting, opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and recent administrative decisions by the Lieutenant Governor.

The decision was taken after an emergency meeting of the Chief Minister’s alliance partners began on Thursday evening as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah drove to Fairview Gupkar, the official residence of the Deputy CM, to chair the session.

Addressing the media after the meeting, NC MLA Tanvir Sadiq, as per news agency JKNS, said that the alliance strongly condemned the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, terming it “anti-minority and anti-Muslim.” He expressed concerns over its impact on Waqf properties and the larger Muslim community in J&K.

He further stated that the alliance has resolved that the people’s mandate should not be disrespected. He warned that coordination with the J&K LG and the central government should not be mistaken for weakness, adding that they are making a final appeal against unilateral decisions, particularly in the wake of recent administrative transfers ordered by LG Manoj Sinha.

Tanvir said that the alliance remains committed to protecting the interests of J&K’s people and will not allow their rights to be undermined. He emphasized that their coordination with the Centre should not be misinterpreted, urging authorities to reconsider recent decisions.

The resolutions come amid growing political tensions in J&K, with the alliance signaling a tougher stance against decisions they believe bypass their authority. Further action is expected in the coming days.-(Agencies )
