Udhampur, April 17 : A tragic hit-and-run accident on National Highway 44 in the Tikri area of Udhampur district claimed the life of a man on Thursday.
As per details available with news agency, the body was shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities, and a case has been registered.
The victim has been identified as Nazir Ahmed(60), a resident of Bari Bharmana. According to officials, an unknown vehicle struck Ahmed while he was on the roadside, resulting in critical injuries. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the vehicle involved in the incident and CCTV footage from the area are being examined to aid the probe.
