Farooq Abdullah’s statement ‘implicating Kashmiris in Pahalgam attack’ deeply disturbing: Mehbooba

Srinagar, May 03: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has termed Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Farooq Abdullah’s recent statement as “deeply disturbing and regrettable”. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supremo said that his statement, as a senior leader from Kashmir, risks fueling divisive narratives, thus providing ammunition to certain media channels to further stereotype & stigmatise Kashmiris & Muslims.While Praising Himanshi Narwal whose husband was among 26 killed in inhuman Pahalgam attack, Mufti said, “We should draw inspiration from Himanshi Narwal who despite the martyrdom of her husband urged Indians not to blame and target Kashmiris or Muslims”.Referring to the statement Farooq Abdullah made, Mehbooba said his remarks were not only misleading but fatal at a time when students & traders from J&K are already facing heightened vulnerability & attacksin a post on X, Mehbooba Mufti wrote,” Farooq sahab’s statement implicating Kashmiris in the Pahalgam terror attack is deeply disturbing & regrettable. As a senior leader that too as a Kashmiri his statement risks fuelling divisive narratives providing ammunition to certain media channels to further stereotype & stigmatise Kashmiris & Muslims.””This isn’t only misleading but fatal at a time when students & traders from J&K are already facing heightened vulnerability & attacks.
