J&K Assembly Rejects Waheed Para’s Sheikh-ul-Alam University Bill

Srinagar, March 30:The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday rejected a private member’s bill proposing the establishment of Sheikh-ul-Alam University in Pulwama. The bill had been introduced by PDP MLA Waheed Para.

The proposal aimed to set up a residential and technical private university in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, offering higher education across multiple academic streams. The funding for the project was proposed to come from surplus resources of the Kashmir Educational Foundation.

However, the government, led by Education Minister Sakina Itoo, opposed the bill citing policy and procedural concerns. Members of the ruling party also opposed the proposal in the House, and it was ultimately rejected following a vote.
