President Putin calls PM Modi, condemns Pahalgam attack, offers full support

New Delhi, May 05: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday strongly condemned the recent attack in Pahalgam, during a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The call highlights Moscow’s support for New Delhi’s counterterrorism efforts and the enduring strength of the Indo-Russian strategic partnership.

“President Putin called Prime Minister Modi and strongly condemned the attack in Pahalgam, India. He conveyed deepest condolences on the loss of innocent lives and expressed full support to India in the fight against terrorism. He emphasised that the perpetrators of the heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice,” said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to bolstering the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between the two countries, a phrase that has long defined the bilateral relationship rooted in decades of diplomatic, defence, and energy cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi also extended his greetings to President Putin on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, which commemorates the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. Modi invited the Russian leader to visit India later this year for the Annual Summit between the two nations.
