“Ceasefire Must Be Honoured, I’m Monitoring From Ground”: Minister Satish Sharma

Jammu, May 10: Minister of Omar Abdullah led Government, Satish Sharma, on Saturday evening said that fresh firing has been reported from multiple areas along the border, despite both India and Pakistan confirming a ceasefire agreement earlier in the day.

“Firing is being reported at the borders. Heavy firing is going on at several places. They (Pakistan) must honour the ceasefire. I’m present here on the ground and monitoring the situation closely,” Minister Sharma told news agency JKNS.

The remarks come just hours after India and Pakistan officially announced a full and immediate ceasefire following US-mediated talks. However, reports of ceasefire violations began surfacing shortly after the announcement.

Local officials and residents in parts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Uri have confirmed hearing gunfire late evening. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the scale or cause of the renewed firing.

The minister urged calm and reiterated that both sides must commit to the ceasefire in letter and spirit to protect civilian lives and restore normalcy. (JKNS)
