Dumping site has made ‘our life hell’, say residents of Yaripora area of Kulgam

Kulgam, Jul 02 : “The dumping site here has made our life hell,” said the people living along the Higher secondary road in the main town of Yaripora area of kulgam district.The locals of the area told voice tv urdu that the municipal committee while collecting garbage from various areas of the town is throwing it on the link road near Government Boys higher secondary school Yaripora .“The dumping of garbage creates a lot of problems for locals as well as students studying in the Hr Secondary,” they said, adding that a foul smell has engulfed the area up to several metres.Gulzar Ahmad dar, a local, said that garbage is dumped near the higher secondary on a regular basis, due to which the residents, School-going students and passersby are facing a lot of inconveniences.“The dumping site has made our life hell as we are unable to open our doors and windows,” Gulzar Ahmad, who lives just a few metres away, said.Another local said the garbage site has also become a hub for stray dogs, thereby posing a risk to their lives as well.“Despite having space available at many places, the authorities have chosen this point to dump the garbage in a residential area, thereby creating problems for us,” a local shop owner said.“The government must take immediate steps to shift the dumping site as we cannot live here under such circumstances,” he said.An official of the MC Yaripora said they have identified a new dumping site in the New area of the Tehsil . “Efforts are on to shift the garbage dumping site,” he said.
