Mehbooba Mufti Extends Eid Al-Adha Greetings, Urges PM to Release Detained Youth

Srinagar, June 6 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the region and the nation on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, emphasizing the festival’s values of sacrifice, compassion, and unity.

In a press statement issued on Friday, Mufti called for reflection on the teachings of Eid Al-Adha, inspired by Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) spirit of devotion and selflessness. She urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and work towards peace and harmony amidst ongoing challenges in the region.

Highlighting the need for justice, Mufti appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the occasion with a humanitarian gesture by ordering the immediate release of prisoners, particularly youth, detained on suspicion or without serious charges.

“Such an act would reflect the essence of this festival, rebuild trust, and demonstrate a commitment to dialogue and reconciliation,” she said, adding that prolonged detentions without substantial evidence deepen alienation and hinder peace efforts in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mufti’s statement underscored the importance of addressing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and fostering a future where dignity and fairness prevail. “Let us use this Eid to bridge divides and uplift the marginalized,” she said, praying for enduring peace, prosperity, and justice in the region.(KNS)
