Three sentenced to life for Hyderpora man’s murder in Anantnag

Anantnag, July 23: A local court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the 2017 abduction and murder of a butcher, calling it a “cold-blooded and premeditated act” carried out for monetary gain.

The Additional Sessions Court Anantnag convicted Javaid Ahmad Poswal, Mohammad Ashraf Kaloo Khel, and Mohammad Imran Poswal under Sections 302 and 109 of the Ranbir Penal Code in FIR No. 63/2017, registered at Police Station Mattan.

The court also imposed fines and directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag to provide compensation to the victim’s family under Section 545-A of the Jammu and Kashmir CrPC.

The verdict and sentence were pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge Masarat Roohi on Wednesday.

The prosecution, led by Senior Prosecuting Officer Mohammad Yaseen Najar, presented forensic evidence, call records, and witness testimonies that helped secure the conviction.

According to the police chargesheet, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie, 29, of Hyderpora, was lured to the forests of Hutmarah, Mattan, under the pretense of a livestock deal, where he was strangled and robbed.

His body was found several days after he went missing on June 29, 2017, sparking massive outrage.
