Muzaffar Shah Demands Waqf Board Dissolution Over Hazratbal Emblem

Srinagar, Sept 5 : ANC Senior Vice President Muzaffar Shah has taken a strong exception to what he described as a reckless tampering with faith and the needless fomenting of unrest in Kashmir over the breaking of a sculpted Ashoka Emblem on the engraved stone at the revered Hazratbal Shrine.

In an statement issued, Shah called for the immediate dissolution of the J&K Waqf Board, warning that such a grievous lapse could ignite law and order challenges in the Valley.

“Those well-versed in Islamic tradition understand that no image has a place in a Muslim shrine or mosque. Hazratbal is the most sacred shrine in J&K and such deliberate or negligent acts that provoke and wound the sentiments of lakhs of devotees represent a total failure of the Board and its officials.

He further underscored the deep emotional attachment of the faithful to Hazratbal, directly linked to the noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), cautioning authorities against testing the patience of the Muslim community.

“We have witnessed the Moye Muqaddas movement and its lessons remain vivid. Those at the helm must recognize how sacred this shrine, along with others, is to devotees.

The government should immediately remove officials who recklessly fan tensions to gain political brownie points,” he concluded.(KNS)
