Srinagar, Sep 21: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said his government cannot be held responsible for the lack of peace in the J&K.
Speaking to reporters, Omar said that maintaining peace is the responsibility of the authorities tasked with it, not his government, and those responsible should fulfill it.
Responding to a question that LG said peace is lacking in J&K, Omar said that while his government is frequently held responsible for many issues, it cannot be held accountable for the current state of peace, as the authority over maintaining peace does not lie within its domain.
“For development, tourism and sports, peace is must. Now, the day-night match that was discussed, if the environment is not good, then who will come to play in the evening? For everything, we need peace,” he added.
Omar said that losses faced by fruit growers due to recent floods will be compensated.
The Srinagar-Jammu highway is now operational without disruption, although a 300-meter patch still requires black-topping, which will be completed soon, he said as per KNS.
Speaking on sports infrastructure in UT, Omar said that his government pays special attention to sports and sports infrastructure and perhaps there is no assembly segment where sports facilities are not being developed.
“In every assembly segment, different types of sports are being built.. Government identifies sports popular among youth in different areas including cricket, football, gymnastics, and volleyball and ensures facilities are handed over to them.”
Speaking on ongoing events, Omar said that the second part of the Kashmir Marathon will take place on November 2. “I invite athletes from all over the country, especially those interested in the half marathon, to come to Srinagar.”
Regarding day-night sports facilities, Omar said that not every ground can be turned into a day-night ground. “But if we start from the big districts, we will expand this network further. Our aim is to hand over such tournaments and infrastructure to the youth.”(KNS)
