Elite NSG Unit Begins Detailed Examination at Nowgam Blast Site

Srinagar, Nov 16: A specialised team of the National Security Guard arrived at the Nowgam Police Station on Sunday to conduct an extensive inspection of the site where a massive accidental explosion killed nine people and injured thirty-two others on Friday night. The elite bomb disposal experts began a systematic assessment of the compound, examining debris, explosive residue and the structural impact of the blast.

Officials said the arrival of the NSG team is part of the ongoing multi-agency investigation aimed at determining the exact handling sequence, the sensitivity of the recovered material and the technical factors that may have contributed to the detonation. Police teams assisted the NSG specialists as they collected samples from the affected open yard where the seized explosive material had been stored for examination.

The blast had caused heavy damage to the main building of the police station, destroyed several parked vehicles and affected adjacent homes. Investigators said the NSG inspection will help corroborate the findings of the Forensic Science Laboratory and support the broader inquiry ordered into the incident.

Locals in the neighbourhood observed tight security as the NSG team entered the sealed premises, where rescue operations had continued late into Friday night before the area was cordoned off. Authorities said the inspection is likely to continue for several hours given the scale of the destruction. [KNT]
