FSSAI Says Eggs Safe for Consumption, Rejects Cancer Risk Claims

Srinagar, Dec 20 : Amid circulating claims linking eggs to cancer risk, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has clarified that eggs are safe for consumption and that no scientific evidence supports such allegations. Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration J&K, Smita Sethi told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the department relies strictly on scientifically verified assessments and the latest FSSAI report clearly states that eggs are safe.

Sethi said the attempt to create panic was unfounded and urged the public not to be misled by unverified claims. She said the FSSAI assessment confirms that eggs are not carcinogenic and there is no indication of widespread adulteration.

“We rely only on scientific evidence and there is a report from FSSAI which confirmed that eggs are safe. Eggs are good for health and it is not necessary that all eggs are adulterated. The report states that eggs are not carcinogenic. Do not panic and do not spread panic,” she said.

Officials said surveillance teams continue routine checks across markets, but no findings so far suggest any threat linked to egg consumption. The department advised people to follow normal hygiene practices and purchase food items from verified sources. (KNT)
