Bodies of two Army porters recovered after overnight search in Gulmarg

The bodies of two porters engaged with the Indian Army, who had slipped into a nallah near the Upper Gulmarg area of Baramulla district, were recovered during an overnight search operation, officials said on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Layakat Ahmad Deedard (27), son of Ghulam Mohammad Deedard of Masjid Aagan Chandoosa, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana (33), son of Jamal-ud-Din Khatana of Pachar Chandoosa in Baramulla district.

Officials said the incident occurred on Thursday when the porters were moving towards Anita Post, a forward area that remains cut off during winter due to heavy snowfall.

While crossing a snow-covered and slippery stretch, both lost balance and fell into the nallah.

Army and local rescue teams launched a search operation despite harsh weather and difficult terrain. After sustained overnight efforts, the bodies were retrieved.

Families of the deceased confirmed that the bodies had been recovered following the overnight operation. Further formalities are underway, officials added.
