Srinagar, Jan 15: In view of the prevailing situation in Iran, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday nominated an officer for coordination and liaison in respect of residents and students from the Union Territory currently residing or studying in the country.
According to an official order issued by the General Administration Department, Anil Sharma, JKAS, Additional Resident Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir Government, New Delhi, has been designated as the nodal officer for coordination and liaison with concerned agencies regarding the welfare of J&K residents and students in Iran.
The order, issued vide Government Order No. 67-JK(GAD) of 2026 dated January 15, states that the nominated officer will coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, concerned embassy and consular authorities, and other relevant agencies as required.
The officer has been tasked with facilitating information sharing, coordination, and necessary interventions relating to the safety, welfare, travel facilitation, and other related matters of residents and students of Jammu and Kashmir presently in Iran.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the safety and well being of Indian nationals, particularly students, in Iran, and follows repeated appeals for government intervention to ensure their protection. [KNT]
