Pakistan’s Attempts to Destabilise Kashmir Foiled: Deputy CM

Srinagar, Jan 26 : Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary on Monday said that Pakistan’s repeated attempts to destabilise Kashmir and damage its tourism sector have been successfully foiled, asserting that peace and development continue to prevail in the Union Territory.

Addressing the 77th Republic Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Choudhary said the morale of the country’s security forces remains high despite ongoing challenges. He paid rich tributes to the Army, police and other security agencies, stating that their sacrifices enable people to live in peace and security.

“Pakistan has caused immense suffering to Jammu and Kashmir and has repeatedly tried to disrupt peace and harm tourism. Our people and security forces will never allow these designs to succeed,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir has emerged stronger after passing through difficult phases and is now moving steadily on the path of development. He added that the current situation in the Union Territory is peaceful and invited tourists from across the country and abroad to visit Kashmir.

“The valleys of Kashmir are ready to welcome tourists. Visitors will find a home-like environment here,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of January 26, Choudhary recalled that the Constitution of India came into force on this day in 1950, making India a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic. He also referred to the freedom struggle and the 1930 resolution for complete independence.

Expressing concern over the growing drug menace, the Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of protecting youth from addiction and said the responsibility of security forces has increased in this regard. He said the government has launched several initiatives to address the issue.

He highlighted programmes such as Mission Youth, digital empowerment platforms, skill development courses and entrepreneurship support systems, including online learning tools and e-courses. The government aims to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a skill hub of North India by 2030, he added.

Choudhary said efforts are underway to boost industrial development through new industrial estates and factories across districts, along with a local employment policy to ensure job opportunities for the youth.

On healthcare and education, he said the government is expanding medical infrastructure with new hospitals, medical colleges and specialised facilities, while also improving access to education in remote areas and promoting girls’ education.

He reiterated that peace, development and youth participation remain the top priorities of the government. (KNS)
