North Korea Supports Iran’s New Supreme Leader, Condemns US-Israel Attack

March 11, 2026: North Korea has expressed support for Iran’s appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s new supreme leader and strongly condemned the recent military attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran.

According to North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a spokesperson from the North Korean Foreign Ministry said that Pyongyang respects the Iranian people’s decision to select Mojtaba Khamenei as the leader of the Islamic Republic. Mojtaba Khamenei is the son of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed at the beginning of the ongoing conflict on February 28 during a US-Israel attack.

The spokesperson also criticized Washington and Tel Aviv, describing their military action as an “unlawful attack” that threatens regional peace and stability. North Korea said such actions undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and should be condemned by the international community.

Earlier, North Korea had also denounced the war against Iran, calling it “gangster-like conduct” in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised another test-launch of strategic cruise missiles from the country’s newest and largest naval destroyer, Choe Hyon. During the event, Kim emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong nuclear deterrent to ensure national security.

The missile launch marks the second weapons test conducted from the Choe Hyon destroyer under Kim’s supervision. North Korea has recently highlighted efforts to strengthen its navy, including claims of equipping naval forces with nuclear capabilities.

The United States has long attempted to curb North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme, but Pyongyang maintains that its nuclear arsenal is necessary to deter potential threats from South Korea and its allies, including the US.

The developments come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, which has raised global concerns about regional and international security.
