Srinagar, March 27, 2026:
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for taking nearly a month to clearly condemn Israel’s strike on Iran, calling the delay “disheartening.”
Her remarks came after Omar Abdullah, while speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, described the war imposed on Iran as “unjust and illegal” and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene diplomatically to help end the conflict in the interest of humanity.
The Chief Minister also expressed condolences over the loss of lives, including members of the Iranian leadership and others killed in the ongoing conflict.
Reacting on social media platform X, Mehbooba Mufti said it was unfortunate that the leader of India’s only Muslim-majority region took so long to issue a clear condemnation. She added that the Punjab Assembly had earlier passed a resolution condemning the conflict and expressing solidarity with Iran, whereas the Jammu and Kashmir government limited itself to statements instead of taking a firm stand.
The political exchange comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly involving Iran and the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
