The next round of “high-level” US-Iran talks will be held in Islamabad “very soon,” a Pakistani government source told Anadolu on Monday.
The source said US President Donald Trump wants the deal done with Iran before his scheduled China visit next month. “I cannot confirm the day at the moment. But it’s for sure soon, in fact very soon in Islamabad,” the source said.
The names of participants have yet to be decided, but the source said the meeting would consist of high-level officials. The written texts of demands and concessions are already with the two sides.
CNN separately reported that Trump administration officials are considering the possibility of holding a second face-to-face meeting with Iranian leaders before the short-term ceasefire expires next week.
An anonymous source familiar with the deliberations told televisions news network that it is unclear if such a meeting will materialize, but said officials are evaluating potential dates and venues for the meeting.
“We need to be prepared to stand something up quickly should things head in that direction,” the source told CNN.
The White House did not respond to multiple requests for comment on the matter.
Marathon historic talks between the US and Iran concluded Saturday in Islamabad, Pakistan with senior delegations from both countries failing to reach an agreement that would bring a permanent end to the US-Israeli war.
The talks followed a two-week ceasefire secured by Pakistan on April 8, marking the highest-level engagement between Washington and Tehran since 1979, though key disputes remained unresolved.
The source familiar told CNN that Geneva and Islamabad are being considered as locations for any additional talks.
People familiar with the talks said US officials are hopeful that a diplomatic resolution is achievable, and that depending on the pace of ongoing discussions, the US and Iran may extend the ceasefire, which is slated to expire next week, to allow additional time for a deal.
