Doctor Suspended as Inquiry Begins into GMC Anantnag Cardiology Department Allegations

Srinagar, June 20: Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister has confirmed that the government has initiated an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Cardiology Department of and has suspended the doctor concerned pending investigation.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said the inquiry was already underway and authorities were awaiting the final report. She stated that no conclusions should be drawn before the investigation is completed and assured that anyone found guilty would face legal action.

Meanwhile, the Health and Medical Education Department issued Government Order No. 504-JK (HME) of 2026 on June 20, placing , Associate Professor of Cardiology currently deputed to GMC Anantnag, under suspension with immediate effect pending inquiry into his conduct.

The suspension was ordered under Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956. During the suspension period, Dr. Shah will remain attached to .

The order was issued by , Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department.

The allegations related to the functioning of the Cardiology Department at GMC Anantnag have sparked concern among patients and civil society groups, who have called for a transparent and impartial investigation. The government has reiterated its commitment to accountability and transparency in the healthcare sector and assured strict action against anyone found responsible after the inquiry is completed.
