Authorities Grant Permission for 8th Muharram Procession in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 23: The District Administration Srinagar has granted permission for the traditional 8th Muharram procession scheduled to be held on June 24, allowing mourners to proceed from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A. Road.

According to an official order issued by the District Magistrate Srinagar, the permission has been granted in favour of the Yaadgari Hussaini Committee, Kalloo Manzil Mohalla, Guru Bazar, following a report submitted by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar.

As per the order, the procession will commence from Guru Bazar at 6:00 am, cross Jehangir Chowk at around 7:00 am, and reach the J&K Bank Headquarters area on M.A. Road at approximately 8:30 am.

The administration has laid down several conditions for the smooth conduct of the procession. One side of M.A. Road will remain reserved for the procession, while the other side will be kept open for emergency services. Organisers have been directed to strictly adhere to the approved route and schedule and ensure compliance with all law and order requirements.

The use of drones during the procession has been prohibited. Organisers have also been asked to maintain close coordination with police, security agencies and civil authorities, besides making adequate first-aid arrangements in consultation with the concerned departments.

Authorities have warned against any activity that could disturb public order or communal harmony and stated that any violation of the stipulated conditions will invite legal action.

The annual Muharram processions draw large gatherings of mourners and necessitate extensive traffic, security and emergency management arrangements across the city.
