Srinagar, July 11: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday alleged that the BJP was attempting to engineer defections in the ruling National Conference (NC) by offering inducements to its legislators.
Addressing party workers in Naseem bagh Srinagar, Omar claimed that a Jammu-based NC MLA was offered ₹20–30 crore, a ministerial berth, and a promise of the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood in exchange for switching sides. He alleged that the offer was conveyed by a senior Supreme Court lawyer “close to the BJP.”
The Chief Minister also questioned the delay in restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood despite the completion of delimitation and Assembly elections. Announcing a National Conference protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20, Omar said the party would intensify its peaceful campaign for the restoration of statehood.
