Jammu, July 19: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday announced that he is cutting short his stay in New Delhi and will return to Jammu to personally monitor the worsening situation caused by heavy rains across parts of the Jammu division.
The decision comes as incessant rainfall triggered flash floods, particularly in Rajouri district, where floodwaters inundated low-lying areas and forced hundreds of residents to move to safer locations.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he had been closely monitoring the situation since early morning and remained in constant touch with local MLAs. He stressed that the administration’s top priority is to protect lives and assured that the government would provide all possible assistance to families affected by property damage and losses caused by the heavy rains and flash floods.
Omar Abdullah also confirmed that the National Conference’s planned statehood protest in Delhi on July 20 will go ahead as scheduled under the leadership of party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
