Auqib Nabi Replaces Injured Jasprit Bumrah in India’s Test Squad for Sri Lanka Series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi as the replacement for injured fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in India’s Test squad for the two-match series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15.

The 29-year-old from Baramulla becomes only the second cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to earn a place in the Indian national team after Parvez Rasool.

Nabi’s selection comes after an outstanding domestic run. He claimed 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, including 60 wickets in the 2025-26 season, playing a key role in Jammu and Kashmir’s maiden Ranji Trophy triumph. He also impressed during the recent India A tour of Sri Lanka, taking six wickets in two matches against Sri Lanka A.

Meanwhile, Bumrah has been ruled out due to a knee injury that worsened after an impact sustained during the England tour. His absence is a major setback for India as the team looks to revive its World Test Championship (WTC) campaign. India currently sits fifth in the WTC standings, making the Sri Lanka series crucial for its hopes of reaching the final.

India’s updated Test squad includes: Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, and Auqib Nabi.
