One Dead, Five Injured as Vehicle Falls Into Canal in Padpawan, Shopian

Shopian, June 08: One elderly woman died and five others sustained injuries after an Alto vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a canal near Padpawan area of Shopian while travelling from Rajouri to Babanagri on Sunday.

Sources told news agency JKNS that, the Alto car was en route to Babanagri when the driver, reportedly lost control of the vehicle at Padpawan area of Shopian.

The car veered off the road and fell into a nearby canal, resulting in one fatality on the spot and multiple injuries, they said.

The deceased has been identified as Noora Begum (80), wife of Late Roshan Deen, resident of Pangri, Rajouri, they said.

Other five injured persons were shifted to nearby hospital, where two persons were referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for Specialized treatment, they added.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigations are underway. (JKNS)
