Srinagar, Sept 5: Srinagar Police on Friday issued a public advisory cautioning citizens against circulating false and misleading reports on social media regarding flood management in the district.

In a statement, police said that certain unverified claims were being spread online, which could cause unnecessary panic and disrupt public order. “Police and Civil Administration are working in close coordination, with sustained efforts ongoing to effectively manage, contain, and mitigate any disaster-related situations in a professional and timely manner,” the advisory read.

The statement urged citizens to act responsibly and refrain from forwarding unverified information. It further warned that strict legal action under relevant provisions of law will be taken against individuals found involved in spreading rumours.

Police also reiterated that the situation is being closely monitored and appealed to the public to stay informed only through official sources and cooperate with authorities. (KNT)
