China Says Strait of Hormuz Blockade Against Global Interests, Urges Restraint

Beijing— China has warned that any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would be against the interests of the international community and has urged all sides to exercise calm and restraint amid rising tensions.

Chinese Foreign Minister made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with UAE President’s special envoy Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak. He stated that while China understands the legitimate security concerns of Gulf Arab states, the only lasting solution to the crisis lies in achieving a comprehensive ceasefire through political and diplomatic means.

The statement comes after the United States announced it would begin a blockade of maritime traffic linked to Iranian ports, following the failure of weekend talks held in aimed at ending the Iran conflict.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated calls for all parties to adhere to temporary ceasefire arrangements and resolve disputes through dialogue. He described the Islamabad talks as a constructive step, despite their failure to reach a breakthrough, and said China is ready to play a “positive and constructive role” in resolving the crisis.

Guo also dismissed reports that China plans to supply weapons to Iran, calling them “groundless smears,” and emphasized that China maintains strict export controls in line with domestic laws and international obligations.

The remains a critical global energy route, handling nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies. Any disruption to traffic through the strait could have serious consequences for global markets and economic stability.
