Omar Abdullah Calls for United INDIA Bloc Stand on Proposed Delimitation Bill

Srinagar, April 15: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister on Wednesday urged the INDIA bloc to adopt a collective position on the proposed parliamentary delimitation bill, stressing the need for unity among opposition parties.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah expressed concerns over previous delimitation exercises, alleging that the restructuring of constituencies had politically favoured the BJP and its allies.

He confirmed that he would attend an upcoming INDIA bloc meeting in Delhi, scheduled to be held at the residence of Congress president , where opposition leaders are expected to chalk out a joint strategy regarding the bill.

Abdullah emphasized that individual parties acting alone would not be effective in responding to the proposed legislation. “There is a need for collective decision-making within the alliance,” he said, adding that a unified stance in Parliament would be crucial.

Referring to past delimitation, he criticized the process, saying the way constituencies were redrawn, seats distributed, and voter bases shifted appeared aimed at benefiting the BJP-led alliance.

He further noted that proposed changes in parliamentary composition—including a possible increase in Lok Sabha seats and provisions for women’s representation—would be carefully examined by the opposition bloc before taking a final stand.
