Kupwara, April 15: Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said that delimitation is unavoidable under the current political situation but stressed that the process must be carried out in a fair and transparent manner.
Speaking to reporters in Kupwara during a party event, she said that since the Bharatiya Janata Party holds a majority, “nothing can be done to stop delimitation.” However, she added that people expect the exercise to be conducted justly.
Referring to the previous delimitation process, Mufti alleged that some constituencies were reorganized in ways that seemed “strange and irrational.” She also claimed that in certain parts of Jammu, constituencies were created in areas with fewer Hindu voters, raising concerns about the logic behind those decisions.
She also criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, calling him a “weak chief minister” despite having the backing of a large number of legislators.
Mufti further highlighted growing social issues in the region, expressing concern that many young people are falling into drug abuse and alcohol addiction, with some cases reportedly leading to suicides.
