Tehran, June 8: Iran has announced a halt to its military operations against Israel, signaling a ceasefire after months of heightened regional tensions. However, Tehran warned that any renewed Israeli military action would be met with a stronger and more forceful response.
Iranian officials said the country was suspending operations against Israel but made it clear that the ceasefire remains conditional.
“We are ceasing operations against Israel. If attacks resume, particularly against Lebanon, Iran will respond with even greater force,” officials stated.
In a separate statement, Iran’s armed forces confirmed the suspension of military operations, warning that any continued aggression or hostile actions would trigger “more severe and crushing measures” than those seen previously.
The announcement came shortly after said that Iran and Israel were seeking an immediate ceasefire and that final negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting peace were underway.
The latest developments follow an exchange of attacks between the two countries. Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel, while Israel responded with strikes on military targets inside Iran. The escalation came after Israeli attacks on positions linked to the Iran-backed in southern Beirut.
The renewed tensions have also rattled global energy markets, with oil prices rising more than five percent amid concerns that a wider conflict could disrupt shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and affect global energy supplies.
While the ceasefire offers hope for de-escalation, Iranian officials stressed that any future attacks would be met with a decisive response, leaving the situation fragile despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
