Mehbooba Mufti Terms Kulgam Attack a ‘Security Lapse’, Demands Thorough Probe

Srinagar, Aug 1: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president on Saturday condemned the killing of two migrant workers in Kulgam, calling the incident a serious security lapse and demanding a thorough investigation.

Speaking to reporters, Mehbooba said she had “no words to condemn” the attack and questioned how militants managed to strike despite heightened security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

She said the incident raises serious concerns about the security apparatus, noting that extensive security deployment is already in place for the pilgrimage. Referring to the security crackdown after the Anantnag terror attack, she claimed that thousands of youths and even elderly people had been detained on suspicion of being overground workers (OGWs), yet such attacks continue to occur.

Calling for a transparent probe, Mehbooba urged the authorities to identify those responsible and fix accountability for what she described as a major security failure.

The Kulgam attack, in which two migrant workers were killed, has drawn widespread condemnation from political parties and civil society.
