Jama Masjid Srinagar to Remain Closed on Lailatul Qadr, Mirwaiz Condemns Decision

Srinagar,March 27(SNO):Authorities have decided to keep the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar closed on the revered night of Lailatul Qadr, preventing thousands of worshippers from offering prayers and seeking forgiveness at the grand mosque.

According to the News Agency—Srinagar News Observer (SNO) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed deep disappointment over the decision on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “regrettable and condemnable.” He highlighted that this move would deprive tens of thousands of Muslims, who have traditionally gathered at the Jama Masjid on this sacred night, of spiritual solace and worship.

“It is extremely regrettable and condemnable that the insensitivity of those in power will deprive tens of thousands of Muslims who for generations visit Jama Masjid on this night, of spiritual solace and worship, causing them and me great grief and dismay,” Mirwaiz wrote.

The decision has sparked outrage and dismay among the people, who view it as an unjustified restriction on religious practices during one of the holiest nights in Islam.—(SNO)
