AIP Stages Protest in Srinagar, Seeks Release of Engineer Rashid

SRINAGAR: Workers and leaders of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Saturday held a protest in Srinagar, urging the government to release party president and Parliament member Engineer Rashid, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in New Delhi.

The protestors also called for the release of other political detainees.

Participants held placards and banners pressing for the freedom of Engineer Rashid, who has been arrested in connection with a militant funding case and has been behind bars for the last 7 years.

Several party leaders, including Ishtiyak Qadri, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Sheikh Khurshid, and Firdous Baba, joined the demonstration, which drew attention to what they termed as prolonged and unjustified detentions.

While speaking to reporters, Sheikh Khurshid, a legislator, said that today, Engineer Rashid completes 7 years in jail. He appealed to all the political parties to raise their voice in favor of the political prisoners and demand their release, who have been languishing in different jails of India. (KNT)
