Amit Shah to visit Jammu, Kishtwar and Katra on Sunday

Jammu, Aug 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Jammu on Sunday to take stock of the situation arising out of recent cloudbursts and floods in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said Shah will first visit the Choashoti area of Kishtwar, which was badly hit by a cloudburst, leaving behind a trail of destruction. He will also pay a visit to Katra in Reasi district, where several yatris lost their lives due to a cloudburst in the Adhkunwari area along the Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route.

During his two-day visit, the Home Minister will chair a high-level review meeting at Raj Bhawan Jammu. The meeting will be attended by top officials of the Union Territory administration, disaster management authorities and security agencies to assess measures taken to deal with the flood situation and to ensure adequate relief and rehabilitation for affected families.

The visit comes amid heightened concern across Jammu and Kashmir following heavy rains, flash floods and cloudbursts that have caused widespread damage and loss of life. [KNT]
