Teen Killed as Father’s Rifle Goes Off Accidentally in Kishtwar

Kishtwar, Jan 11: A tragic incident was reported from Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, where a 16-year-old boy lost his life after his father’s rifle accidentally discharged at their residence, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday night at Loyee Dhar village in the Mughal Maidan area of Kishtwar. According to officials, Village Defence Guard member Pyare Lal was cleaning his service rifle at around 9.30 pm when the weapon accidentally went off.

The bullet struck his son, Anuj Kumar, a Class 10 student, resulting in his death on the spot, officials said.

Police personnel rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. The body of the deceased was shifted to Chatroo Hospital for post mortem examination.

Officials said inquest proceedings have been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accidental firing. The rifle involved in the incident has been seized and sent for forensic examination, while statements of family members are being recorded as part of the investigation.[KNT]
