Operation Trashi-I: Encounter Breaks Out in Kishtwar, Militants Trapped

Srinagar: A high-intensity encounter between security forces and a group of militants entered a critical phase on Saturday in the dense forest areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials said.

Security agencies confirmed that two to three militants have been trapped following a fresh exchange of gunfire during the ongoing counter-insurgency operation.

The group has been under sustained pursuit after managing to escape security forces during three previous encounters on January 18, 22, and 24. A joint team of the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kishtwar has now established a tight cordon in the same area the militants had earlier used to evade capture.

Current Situation

According to officials, security forces re-established contact with the militants in the Dolgam area during the early hours of January 31 as part of Operation Trashi-I. The joint operation is being led by troops of the White Knight Corps, along with personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF.

Acting on coordinated intelligence inputs from multiple sources, the forces launched a targeted ground operation, successfully laying a multi-layered cordon around the suspected hideout. Active operations are currently underway.

Military sources said the militants are taking advantage of the rugged, snow-covered terrain and natural caves for concealment. Despite over two feet of fresh snowfall, elite units have maintained strict area domination to prevent any escape.
