Ganderbal, Feb 24, 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday appealed to Indian students, particularly those from J&K, currently residing in Iran to strictly follow the latest advisory issued by the Indian Embassy and return home without delay.
Speaking to reporters in Ganderbal, the Chief Minister cautioned students against ignoring the advisory, warning that further escalation in the security situation could lead to airspace closures and travel disruptions.
“I want to tell the students of Jammu and Kashmir not to take this advisory for granted. If the airspace is closed tomorrow, their parents and families will panic, and it becomes difficult for us to help in such circumstances,” Omar Abdullah said.
He urged students and other Indian nationals in Iran to book tickets immediately and leave the country using any available means of transport. He added that they could return once the situation stabilizes.
Embassy Advisory
The advisory, issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran on February 23, 2026, advises all Indian nationals — including students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists — to leave Iran through commercial flights or any other available transport due to the evolving security situation.
Alleged Harassment of Kashmiri Students in Punjab
Addressing reports of alleged harassment of Kashmiri students at CT University in Punjab, the Chief Minister said he would raise the matter with the Punjab Chief Minister to ensure that no student faces harassment.
Omar Abdullah expressed confidence that the Punjab government has always supported Jammu and Kashmir and clarified that any issue, if it exists, may be internal to the university and would be looked into.
Development Projects in Ganderbal
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones and inaugurated several development projects in the Ganderbal constituency worth ₹84.41 crore. The projects aim to strengthen urban infrastructure, healthcare services, water supply, road connectivity, and other public services in the region.
