International Yoga Day 2026: PM Modi Says Yoga Can Lead the World Towards Peace

Kolkata, June 21, 2026: Prime Minister said that yoga is not only important for personal health but can also help create a more peaceful world. He made these remarks while addressing thousands of people during the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations at Kolkata’s Red Road.

Speaking on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” Modi stressed the importance of maintaining balance in life through proper work, nutrition, and sleep. Referring to the , he said yoga teaches people how to live a balanced and disciplined life.

The Prime Minister noted that yoga goes beyond physical exercise and contributes to mental well-being, inner peace, and overall health. According to him, this inner harmony can eventually promote peace across societies and nations.

Modi urged people to make yoga a daily habit rather than limiting it to a single annual event. He highlighted that June 21 has become one of the world’s largest community celebrations because yoga unites people across countries, cultures, and faiths.

Emphasizing healthy ageing, he said people should aim to remain more flexible, energetic, and resistant to lifestyle diseases as they grow older. He added that regular yoga practice helps individuals maintain physical fitness, mental calmness, and lifelong learning about their bodies and minds.

The celebrations were observed across India and around the world. Union Health Minister credited Modi with popularizing yoga globally, while praised yoga’s role in promoting well-being and mindfulness worldwide. The U.S. state of also officially recognized June 21, 2026, as International Day of Yoga.

Modi concluded by saying that a healthy society creates a stronger, more confident nation and encouraged people of all ages to embrace yoga as a way of life.
