Shiv Sena-UBT To Launch Protest Across Maharashtra Against India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday (13 September) announced that his party will stage protests across Maharashtra against the Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan scheduled for Sunday, reported Hindustan Times.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Thackeray questioned the Central government’s decision to allow the match.

“Our Prime Minister said blood and water cannot flow together, then how can blood and cricket flow together? How can war and cricket be at the same time? They have done business in patriotism. The business of patriotism is only for money.

They are going to play the match tomorrow also because they want all the money they will get from that match,” he said.

Thackeray called the cricket match a joke on patriotism and argued that boycotting it would send a strong message against terrorism.

He also referred to his father Bal Thackeray’s stand on India-Pakistan cricket ties.

Citing an earlier meeting between Bal Thackeray and Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad at Matoshree, the family’s Mumbai residence, he said, “My father had told Javed Miandad that there will be no cricket till terror acts against India from Pakistan continue.”
