Jammu, April 17: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has imposed a 60-day ban on posting or sharing communally sensitive and inflammatory content on social media platforms across Jammu district, citing concerns over public order and communal harmony.
According to officials, the decision was taken in view of the increasing misuse of social media to spread provocative, false, and inciting content that could disturb peace, trigger communal tensions, and pose risks to life and property.
District Magistrate issued the order under Section 163 of the (BNSS). The order strictly prohibits posting, uploading, sharing, or forwarding any text, image, video, audio, meme, graphic, or reel that promotes enmity, hatred, or ill-will between communities based on religion, race, caste, language, or region.
The order came into effect immediately and applies to the entire territorial jurisdiction of Jammu district.
Officials emphasized that the law empowers the District Magistrate to take preventive measures to avoid threats to public safety, maintain law and order, and prevent situations that could lead to unrest, riots, or disturbances.
The administration has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the order.
