J&K Govt Takes Over Management of 58 Schools Linked to JeI, FAT

Srinagar, April 18: In a major administrative move, the has ordered the takeover of management committees of 58 functional schools found affiliated with the banned (JeI) and its associate (FAT).

The order was issued by the School Education Department (SED) following notifications by the , which had declared JeI an unlawful association under the .

According to officials, intelligence agencies recently identified 58 schools with direct or indirect links to JeI/FAT. The managing committees of these institutions had either expired or were reported adversely.

As per the directive, the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will take over the management of these schools and later propose fresh managing committees after proper verification.

The government stated that the decision aims to safeguard the academic future of students enrolled in these institutions. DCs have been instructed to coordinate with the School Education Department to ensure that academic activities continue without disruption.

Authorities have also been directed to maintain education standards in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) and ensure that students do not suffer any academic loss.

Officials added that teams from the School Education Department have already been deputed to these schools to oversee further necessary action.

Notably, in August 2025, the government had taken a similar step by assuming control of 215 schools linked to JeI and FAT across Jammu and Kashmir.
