Srinagar, April 25 : The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of J&K Police on Saturday conducted extensive searches inside Central Jail Srinagar in connection with an ongoing terror-linked investigation, officials said.
The searches were carried out following a warrant issued by the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 06/2023 registered at Police Station CI Kashmir under Sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B of the IPC, along with Sections 13 and 39 of the UA(P) Act.
Officials said that the searches were conducted based on “credible technical inputs” indicating the presence of suspicious digital signatures within the high-security prison here. Acting on these leads, teams conducted thorough searches across multiple barracks in coordination with jail authorities.
During the operation, “incriminating material in the form of digital communication devices” were recovered and subsequently seized. “The seized devices are expected to play a crucial role in the investigation and will undergo detailed forensic examination to establish linkages and uncover a broader terror network,” CIK said in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com .
The agency is also probing what they described as a “serious security breach” that enabled the entry of such devices into the jail. “The role of facilitators, including any insiders or external collaborators, is being examined. Strict legal action will follow against those found involved,” the official added.
The searches are part of a broader effort by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to curb illicit activities within sensitive security zones and dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory. Investigators are particularly focusing on identifying Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and other associates allegedly aiding unlawful activities through covert communication channels.
Officials reiterated that operations of this nature will continue as part of sustained counter-terror efforts aimed at preventing misuse of prison infrastructure and strengthening internal security mechanisms. (KDC)
