Trump Announces “Permanent Opening” of Strait of Hormuz, Signals Deal with China

U.S. President on Wednesday claimed that the would be “permanently opened” for global trade, including China, following recent tensions in the region.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that was “very happy” with the move and had agreed not to supply weapons to . He also suggested coordination with Chinese President , adding that both countries were working together to avoid further conflict.

However, Trump did not provide specific details about how the strait would be reopened or the exact terms of the reported understanding with China.

The announcement comes shortly after the (CENTCOM) imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports. According to CENTCOM, the blockade halted nearly all maritime trade linked to Iran within 36 hours, significantly impacting the country’s economy, which heavily depends on sea-based trade.

China, the largest buyer of Iranian oil, criticized the U.S. action, calling it “irresponsible” and warning that it could undermine the recently established ceasefire. Beijing also dismissed reports that it was preparing to send new air defense systems to Iran, labeling them as false.

Meanwhile, Iranian military officials issued strong warnings. A senior commander stated that continued U.S. actions could violate the ceasefire and lead Iran to block all exports and imports across key waterways, including the Persian Gulf and surrounding seas.

The situation remains tense, with uncertainty over whether Trump’s announcement signals a real diplomatic breakthrough or a political statement without immediate implementation.
