Jammu, April 27: A special NIA court in Jammu on Monday extended the remand of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah by 10 more days in connection with a 1996 terror-related case.
Shah was produced before the court after the completion of his earlier 10-day remand. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought additional custody for further interrogation.
After hearing both sides, the court approved the agency’s request and granted a 10-day extension of custody.
Shah was arrested by the NIA in Delhi on April 17 in connection with a case related to a militant funeral procession in 1996, during which an attack on policemen allegedly took place. He was first produced before the Patiala House Court, which granted transit remand, and later shifted to Jammu where he has been in judicial custody.
He has also filed a bail application, which is expected to be heard on the next date of proceedings.
